There appears to be an error in Hecht's book on page 651 in the magnetic equation of telegraphy (A1.20). The first equality sign should be a subtraction operator. This isn't noted on Chris Mack's errata sheet.
Also, I'm pretty certain that the equation in problem 9.3 on page 438 should carry a factor of 2 out front, instead of 4. Unless I'm losing a factor every time and this situation is incompatible with Equations (9.17) and (9.12).

ReplyDeleteFYI, if you happen to have the solutions manual, it is riddled with errors (some of them trivial, some not). Use at your own peril!
